The WHIZZER 1969S is a headband-style headphone that blends retro aesthetics with modern acoustic technology, drawing inspiration from the iconic Realistic Nova 4, launched in 1969. In recent years, the global popularity of retro-themed media like *Stranger Things* has reignited interest in the cultural elements of the 1960s and 1970s.
Against this backdrop, JUNCTION IDEA studio’s designers created the WHIZZER 1969S to pay homage to that vibrant golden era and its distinctive design language. Visually, the headphone retains the signature metal 3D cavity panel of the Realistic Nova 4, enhanced with modern surface treatment techniques. The interplay of electrochemical machining (ECM) and traditional mechanical processing creates a unique retro-futuristic aesthetic.
However, on-ear headphones, while rich in nostalgic charm and visual appeal, inherently face challenges in soundstage sealing and environmental noise isolation compared to over-ear models. To address this, the WHIZZER 1969S incorporates a proprietary anti-direct-impact soundproof mesh and lattice-style sound output holes, paired with an internal acoustic structure based on dipole acoustic principles, notably improving sound sealing and soundstage control.
Additionally, it departs from the diffuse-field dynamic drivers commonly used in headband headphones, opting instead for the Whizzer 40mm 7th.Gen pressure-field coherence unit, tailored to the product’s size and lattice soundproof earpads. This focused pressure-field coherence wave not only reduces sound leakage at non-operational angles, but also delivers a listening experience akin to in-ear monitors, with high-resolution audio quality.
Moreover, the large 40mm dynamic driver, with a specially designed long stroke (0.8mm), ensures robust low-frequency output through efficient kinetic conversion. Combined with the high-resolution pressure-field coherence, the overall sound texture and detail surpass many comparable headband headphones.
