The DSP9 uses the geometry of the ellipse to create a visually stunning aesthetic. An ellipse is a shape that is favoured in marine & aviation design for its extreme aero & hydro-dynamic properties. Just as a ships stern is designed to allow water to flow as efficiently as possible across it without causing drag or vibrations that could impede performance, the DSP9 cabinet is precision engineered through both horizontal & vertical planes to create a similar effect with soundwaves.
By creating these perpetual, three-dimensional curves, the cabinet takes on a sculptural form. The elliptical curves allowed Meridian to remove visual weight from the cabinet to create a leaner silhouette from all angles. With DSP9’s elegant silhouette, flat surfaces have been virtually eliminated. When viewed from any angle, the silhouette of the cabinet narrows towards the top of the loudspeaker. This helps diminish any impression of bulkiness which afflicts the appearance of some loudspeakers with comparable overall dimensions. The ellipse shape itself delivers the rigidity and strength crucial for a loudspeaker cabinet, as well as enabling Meridian to achieve its psychoacoustic goal of mirroring human proportions by combining a tapered shape and large volume cabinet for maximum performance. Meridian’s Select Finishing option allows the speaker to either seamlessly blend into the room with a complimentary finish or stand out with a bold, vibrant colour, finished in matte or gloss.
