Even today, there is a culture in Japan where people casually go out in summer wearing yukata. Yukata is a casual, kimono-like garment made of cotton fabric. The experience of wearing a yukata is also popular with overseas visitors.
Japan has over 500 species of endangered plants endemic to Japan, and academic information on these is not disseminated to the public. However, adopting them as beautiful floral motifs in textile designs makes them instantly familiar as objects to be worn and is very effective in disseminating information.
Therefore, I designed a textile for kimono using the flower of Primula kisoana var. kisoana, that blooms only on Mt.Narukami in the world, and produced an original product in cooperation with the factory in Kiryu City, which once flourished in the textile industry.
In addition to the bright pinky red of the Primula kisoana 's petal color, the textile was arranged and proposed based on a pale chic coloring inspired by the historical architecture of Kiryu city built in the Meiji era.
The two types of yukata were crafted from different textile fabric: a smooth twill cotton fabric and a rough-textured cotton/hemp blend fabric, creating casual nuance and rustic colors.
