The Twin Bath is the world’s first bathing aid designed specifically for new-born twin aged 0-6 months.

The design aims to improve the bath-time experience by mitigating safety concerns and reducing anxieties, especially when twins are bathed by a single parent/guardian.

Inclusivity is at the heart of the project; existing products do not encourage interaction adequately. Siblings are often placed out of reach from each other, facing away from the guardian. By contrast, The Twin Bath is designed to maximise interaction between twin siblings while allowing maintained eye contact with the guardian – promoting emotional bonds between all.

From new-born to 6 months, babies cannot sit up unsupported and require constant supervision, particularly while bathing. This period can last longer in the case of preterm birth – a scenario that is far more likely with twins (54%) when compared to giving birth to a single child (9.6%).
As such, twins must either be bathed sequentially or lifted in turn into multiple individual bathing aids. This can cause safety concerns, stress and anxiety especially for a parent/guardian bathing twins alone, since one twin may be temporarily unattended.

Over half of mothers who give birth to twins require a Caesarean section. This procedure requires significant healing after birth, limiting a mother’s mobility/twisting for a significant time after birth. The Twin Bath is designed for face-to-face operation, reducing the need to twist when bathing.
Furthermore, existing solutions do not promote the emotional bonds between siblings and their carer, established in utero. Closeness and physical contact provide comfort and should be fostered wherever possible.

Set up, set down and cleaning were considered to ensure the product is easy to use. The Twin Bath can be lifted single handed in/out of the bath using the integral handle, and reclined against the sidewalls of a wide range of standard baths. The material (PP) enables a no fuss, easy-clean lightweight unibody construction with no small parts or finger traps. Perforations in the seating area promote good hygiene, maximise water flow to prevent stagnation and drain quickly after use.
