Universum Mechanical Blue

The UNIVERSUM MECHANICAL watch is a new take on the mechanical watch design, the core of which is storytelling. The watch designs were inspired by the space topic and the progress of its human exploration. The concept is based on merging the stylizations of two celestial maps — ancient and modern — which emphasises the human achievements in understanding the order of the Universe. The dials are equipped with two-time display rings (outer and inner) as well as calendars.

Geocentrism was taken as the basis for the concept. In the old days, people would believe in geocentrism, according to which the Earth was the centre of the Universe with the Solar System objects revolving around it. With our UNIVERSUM MECHANICAL collection, we draw attention to both the importance of a scientific approach to knowing things and the need for preserving historical and cultural heritage of the different epochs which saw those discoveries. The uniquiness lies in the balance between the collection’s conceptual importance and its functionality. When designing the collection, we were challenged by combining the striking concept implementation with the convenience of day-to-day use.

We want the owners to be able to discover something new in their watches over the course of time. For this reason, the designs include various references. For example, we used Latin on the ancient map on the left side of the dial and English on the modern map on the right side of the dial. To make the watches user-friendly, we designed three hands and equipped the dials with two indication rings — internal and external. The external ring comes with a full hour hand rotation in 24 hrs while the internal, or classic one, is equipped with a 12-hour rotation of the minute and second hands. The watches are powered by a high-quality Seiko NH34A mechanism (24 stones); their cases are made of stainless steel. The collection is limited.
