Whispers in the Current

Avantika Malhotra's profound connection to the ocean, stemming from her upbringing in coastal cities and her early scuba diving experiences, has been the guiding force behind her collection, "Whispers in the Current." The collection reflects her passion for the sea's ever-changing emotions and its power to both soothe and challenge. With an understated nod to sustainability and social impact, the project includes innovative pieces crafted from upcycled scuba wetsuits, subtly championing the potential of recycled materials in creating eco-conscious garments.

"Whispers in the Current" presents a versatile 6-look collection comprising interchangeable separates, bags, and jewellery. Bags were designed and produced in collaboration with Christian Olarte. The pieces are meticulously crafted to prioritise wearer comfort and reflect the fluidity and freedom experienced underwater. Blending elements from the world of scuba diving, the collection seamlessly integrates sportswear influences, promoting movement and flexibility, perfectly mirroring the dynamism of an active lifestyle.

Avantika's innovative approach shines through, particularly in Looks 1 and 3, which are entirely fashioned from second-hand damaged scuba wetsuits sourced locally from New York City dive shops. Through this resourceful transformation of damaged materials into captivating garments, she subtly advocates for sustainability and eco-consciousness.
