Armature

Reaching out from the wall, the armature light glows at any angle and any light-level. It folds flat, and rotates 180 degrees out. From a sconce to a reading lamp, it can transform to the users’ needs. The entire fixture acts as a light switch - with the touch of a finger on any part of the fixture, the light will grow as the touch remains.

It began 13 years ago when I found a discarded wood project next to the University of Florida Fine Arts building dumpster. I removed some things, and added a few other things (light bulbs) and salvaged it as my light that would hang on every apartment wall, and travel with me from Miami to Arkansas. Using this wood light as a prototype, I worked closely with a fabricator to have a steel fixture made while I added wiring for the new LED tape dimmer lights.

Folded closed, the fixture is 4’-6” tall, 4” deep and 6” wide. The fixture frame is made of steel plate, steel channels, an aircraft cable, and a pulley. The light is an LED dimmable tape light that is inserted into a 1” diameter frosted tube. The tape light is connected to a dimmer switch which is located in the base of the fixture and touches the metal.
