"Forest Friends" is an augmented reality (AR) mobile experience designed to enrich family outings, group activities, and educational ventures within the lush environment of a rainforest. Developed specifically for use at the American Museum of Natural History’s rainforest diorama in the Biodiversity Hall, this application aims to maximize spatial efficiency by enhancing interactivity. It provides users with personalized, engaging experiences while incorporating educational content about the diverse creatures inhabiting rainforests.
The visual components of "Forest Friends" were designed using Figma, while the augmented reality functionality was crafted through Unity. This synergy of tools has created an immersive and interactive learning environment that brings the rainforest to life in new and exciting ways.
We extend our deepest gratitude to our project director, Matt Parker, for his invaluable guidance, and our client team—Debra, Eozin, and Rebecca—for their insightful direction. Special thanks also go to our AR development consultants, Alan Ren and Sean Liu, for their technical expertise, and to Kai Cheng, whose knowledge in museum interaction design has been instrumental in shaping this engaging experience.
