Hinoki, a sacred tree native only to Japan and traditionally used in architecture such as Horyu-ji Temple since ancient times, is a natural material with antibacterial, deodorizing, insect-repelling, and calming effects.
We created naturally derived, resource-recycled shampoo, body, and skincare products that blend Hinoki’s healing aroma with plant-based ingredients—promoting wellness, sustainability, and harmony with nature, rooted in Japanese tradition and made for today’s mindful lifestyle.
We reimagined Japanese craftsmanship through sensory-driven design that invites users to experience the raw essence of Hinoki. From touch to scent, each product channels the forest’s warmth, purity, and regenerative power into daily self-care rituals.
Our soap features ultra-fine Hinoki sawdust, not only for natural exfoliation and deep-pore cleansing, but also as a powerful statement in circular design—repurposing what would be waste. The modular soap dish visually represents lather and a bathtub, while essential oil distillation water is reused as a key ingredient, minimizing resource loss.
Bath essence combines Oku-Beppu onsen water with Hinoki oil, bringing forest hot spring luxury to any home. Its Hinoki wood cap, made from offcuts, also serves as a precise measuring tool—form meets function.
Shampoo and Treatment reinterpret traditional shrine architecture. Their shoulder design references Hiwadabuki, the layered Hinoki bark roofing symbolic of spiritual renewal. A tactile mark on the treatment bottle top serves as an inclusive cue for visually impaired users, reflecting our universal design philosophy.
Across all components—bottles, packaging, brochures—we apply the Yamato Ratio (1:√2), used by Hinoki artisans for centuries to express harmony, now revived as a design language of quiet precision.
With an Osaka materials firm, we developed a hydrophobic coating that shields raw Hinoki from mold and moisture—without altering its texture. A breakthrough beyond urethane.
From concept to production, we collaborate with Good Job! Center Kashiba, a facility supporting people with disabilities. Their involvement in packaging assembly promotes inclusive employment and reflects our vision of a society where everyone can find joy and purpose through meaningful work.
This isn’t just product development—it’s a reinvention of tradition, design, and community, creating a tactile, timeless, and ethical experience.
