The Coffee Watch

When it comes to sustainability in the watch industry, Lilienthal Berlin has been an early adopter of alternative materials and discovered now an even more unique material: coffee.
In collaboration with the Berlin-based company Kaffeeform, Lilienthal Berlin designed the world’s first watch made from recycled coffee.
The creation of the coffee watch starts right after enjoying a hot beverage: The coffee grounds are collected from Berlin cafés and roasters. Then they are dried and prepared in social workshops. Finally, through an innovative process from Kaffeeform, they are turned into a unique and robust material, which will become the case of the watches. This material is characterized by a fine coffee scent and a unique, marbled look.

Coffee time is quality time. That´s why the entire design of the Coffee Watch ins inspired by the coziness of a coffee break: Depending on the perspective, the shape, color and feel of the round case is reminiscent of a coffee bean or a cup. The crown is fully embedded in the back of the watch, stylishly completing a harmoniously modern look. The Bauhaus-inspired dial, complete with a subtle sun-cut effect and thinned hour and minute hands, underlines the sleek, minimalistic look.
The core of the case is made of stainless steel so that the watch will last for many years to come. The super precise and reliable quartz movement from the Swiss manufacturer Ronda is also made for the long run: The battery lasts around seven years before it needs to be replaced.
With the Coffee Watch, Lilienthal Berlin wants to show just how exciting a sustainable lifestyle can be. That it's worth challenging the status quo. That it's possible to make a watch out of something as seemingly useless as coffee grounds. That good looking accessories can be compatible with premium quality and sustainability.
