Dynamic Balance - Wing of Pen (Pen holder)

For this project, I was inspired by Apple watch, which originated from the jewelry design. Its designer Jony Ive intended to create something not just a tiny computer on your wrist but also a piece of elegant decoration and art you will appreciate dally. It is an expression of your taste.

Dynamic Balance - Wing of Pen redefines the concept of playing with balance. Common balance products deliver interaction that users can only play with the default setting of the balance; with time passing by, they end up being forgotten or cleared due to a lack of sustainable value of interaction.

The Dynamic balance, in contrast, encourages users to define their own balance. The Wing swipes up and down with different pens being put into different pen slots. It looks beautiful and elegant and there’s a lot of fun playing with it. It is a decoration that can enhance people’s moods in daily life. Every user will have their own unique experiences and visual image of the product.

There is irony or humor designed in this product. “The beauty that makes simple difficult.” Normally we need pen holders to be stable, steady and easy to use, but the movable Pen Wing makes it difficult to place and pick up the pens. With electronic technology widely being used in modern life, people have less needs and chances to use pens compared to the age before. However, pens are important treasures of human’s intelligence and still efficient tools for productivity. They are worth being treated with art and fun to be elegant and playful.

Dynamic Balance is certainly a good purchase for people who use pen in daily life. Except from using it at a private space, it is also a piece of art that can go on the public and business table which functions as a symbol of elegance and aesthetic to enhance the image of the company or organization. Ideal scenarios could be in the CEO’s office, a business negotiation table or room, reception counter for business and at home.
