A new era in sustainable eyewear

The 3D printed SUBSTANCE collection by ROLF is made out of an plant based material. The frames are flexible with a high extension, safe on skin, and still guaranteed the functionality of ROLF’s screw-less and patented FLEXLOCK eyewear hinge system.

Technical insights
The patented hinge has proven itself the ideal component. It can be printed at the same time as the frame using 3D printing technology, meaning the whole frame can be made all at once and therefore keep the number of external suppliers to a minimum. In addition to the high performance of the screw-less hinge, children will also benefit from the flexible, natural, and skin-friendly properties of the plant-based frame. The frame is screwless and does not have any small spare parts.

Material insights
Besides the positive point mentioned above, the collection brings the power of plants to the fore. The starting point for the collection is a powder derived from a plant. It brings with it a whole array of sustainable and functional properties that have enabled to development of innovative, plant-based eyewear.
