BloomShade started from a small, familiar frustration: a desk that keeps shrinking. In a dorm room, a shared flat, or a home office that doubles as everything else, there is rarely room for a proper desk lamp, and the one you squeeze in ends up fighting the keyboard, the notebook and the screen for space.
So BloomShade does not sit on the desk at all. It clamps to the top of the monitor and reaches over the screen on a slim gooseneck, bringing light down from above and leaving the surface clear. The part that makes it BloomShade is the shade itself, an origami-faceted form that opens and closes like a physical aperture. Fold it shut and the light narrows to a tight, focused pool for close work. Let it bloom open and the same lamp spreads a soft, warm wash for reading, a video call, or winding down at the end of the day.
The nice part is that you can see it working. There is no app, no slider, no menu. The shape of the product tells you what the light is doing, and adjusting it is as direct as opening your hand. Inside, a recessed LED sits deep in the fold, so the source stays hidden and the glow stays comfortable rather than harsh. Power is plain USB-C, the kind of cable a desk already has.
Visually, it is meant to feel calm. The translucent shade glows a little like folded paper or a paper lantern, while the matte-black clamp and arm stay quiet and out of the way. It should read as a considered object on the desk, not another gadget bolted to a screen.
BloomShade's real contribution is small but honest. It makes adaptable light legible, and it hands back the desk space a normal lamp takes away. For anyone working in a tight, busy corner, that adds up to better light, a clearer desk, and an easier day.
