According to estimates, around 200 tons of campaign banners are discarded after each election in Taiwan, creating a major environmental burden. SECB transforms these banners into flood protection sandbags using their waterproof and abrasion-resistant properties with a superabsorbent polymer (SAP) liner and a Y-shaped slit structure. Lightweight and compact, the sandbags rapidly expand upon contact with water, allowing quick deployment as an effective flood barrier.
SECB extends the life cycle of discarded materials while transforming campaign banners—once symbols of political differences—into shared resources for community protection. The design symbolizes setting aside differences to safeguard communities against climate change. Its intuitive assembly lowers the barrier to disaster preparedness, encouraging residents to prepare in advance and turning disaster preparedness into a collective effort that strengthens community resilience.
